I have sold a car, and the purchaser wants to either send me a cheque or bankers draft (from a UK bank) for the deposit, and pick up in 10 days time.

Which is the safest option. Is it safe to disclose bank account details for a bankers draft. Or is it safer to ask for a cheque since I should have more than a week for it to clear.

How shoud I ask for the balance to be paid on pick up, cash?

Both bankers drafts and cheques can be recalled, even after apparently clearing.

THE safest way is cash - or a direct bank transfer, so cash is placed in to your bank account. This can never be recalled.

You would need to give your name, bank name and sort code and account number for the buyer to do this. But it is safe - these details plus your signature is on every cheque you issue.
