Help! Please can anyone tell me how to keep a neighbour's dog (who is left to wander on its own) from coming into my garden and using it as a toilet? Is there any deterrent that would help it to keep away? Thanks!

I suppose you could erect a garden gate?

Thank you but I already have a hedge as a natural border. I am on the end of a terrace and the dog could just wander across from the side anyway. Thanks for your interest.
Hi, I have a similar problem.

I use some chrystals called "keep off" or "get off"! Sorry, cant remember exact name.

You can get them from pet shops/garden centres/diy stores. (they are not harmful to any animals)

They are in chrystal pellet type things and also a spray. Not a 100% effective but they did improve things alot.

Other than that I think the only other thing is speaking to your neighbour, if thats possible, or putting up some wire/fence/other bushes?

can you not install a green mesh in your hedge??

its not really in your hedge but at the bottom of it and held tight with some timber stakes?
a gun
Collect the poo on a shovel and place it in the dog owners garden, on full view to them. I think they will get the message!
Get a bigger and fiercer dog?
Post the poo through their letterbox - they'll soon get the hint

thanks folks ... no point trying to shoot the dog as it usually happens during the day time when I am at work. As for posting it through the letter box or placing it in their garden, I don't think the family would even notice! Might give the crystal a try ... thanks!
coward!
Phone the dog warden at your local council he may be able to give you some advice.
try putting ex-lax chocolate outside your garden in the evening so when their dog eats it then goes in for the night they will wake up to a pile of poo in their house. doesn't solve your problem but loads of satisfaction!!
as every one else has said put netting/mesh up with sturdy stakes to hold it upright may be the solution and put pepper/dog off around as an extra deterrent.
also , how do you know it's their dog doing this, seeing that you are out?
