If there is only a small gap then i use any fire rated tube mastic to seal the gap at fire side. If it is too large for a bead of mastic then fill it with expanding fire foam first let it cure and trim any excess, then smear it with the fire rated mastic. You can purchase both from B&Q usualy near to the fire display section. To make double sure it is sealed also run a bead of flexible decorators caulk around the outer edge where it buts up to the wall aswell. but this is just to seal it do not rely on it as a suitable fixing aswell for that you need the appropriate adhesive first before sealing it.

I am also assuming that this is what you meant by sealing. if it is not then please accept my apologies. And perhaps Buildersmate could suggest a way to actualy seal the stone itself. before you carry out the above suggestions to seal it to the wall.

Thanks for your answer gasman but unfortunately I did mean seal the stone. Your reply will be helpful though if we do have any gaps when the fireplace is fitted.

Cheers xx
