Is there a proper way to dispose of a real christmas tree? Or can I just whack it in the wheelie bin with everything else...

You're local councill run tip will have a seperate container for disposing of your tree in the new year ( at least ours does anyway ).
Our council picks them up in the new year.
Same as gasman; all our tips in Northamptonshire have a specific skip for Xmas trees.
Are you planning well in advance or have you just around to removing last year's tree to enable this year's to fit in?

well, i'm trying to decide whether to get a real tree or a fake one, and one of the reasons i'd be tempted with a fakie is that it could be difficult getting rid of the dead old carcass.

Hi, I've just bought a real one that is potted and rooted....so hopefully there will be no need to get rid of it....just use it again next year ;o]

oh how could you? That poor little tree, once growing proudly in its original environment.......not harming anyone or anything....and along comes a lumberjack(?) and chops it down, stuffs it in the back of a truck, takes it to market and sells it to the highest bidder, ties it up tightly, - no consideration for its feelings whatsoever....... then to be stuffed in the back of a car, dragged out at the other end, all this time frightened and alone, and then - stuffed in a bucket full of mud and sand, humiliated with garlands and decorations, with a frail little doll shaped figure called a 'fairy' and after a couple of weeks - unfed and lonelier still......YOU WANT TO WHACK IT IN A WHEELIE BIN WITH EVERYTHING ELSE????? Shame on you!!!! Lol
