Bad smell

Whenever i use my washing machine there is a bad smell of fish. We have has the machine for about 12 months and have never had a problem with it before. Any ideas?

Check the plug top and the socket the machine plugs into,a fishy smell normally means a burnt socket or plug top.

The other alternative might be if you are continually using a low temperature wash which allows bugs to survive and build up. I occasionally get this fishy/drains smell. The answer is to use the machine on a high temperature wash at least once every three weeks or so..
If it is a problem inside the drum, I recently read on AB to use a 60 degree empty wash, put sode crystals inside the drum and some bleach in the drawer where you put the powder, do the 60 degree wash and it should freshen the machine up. Good luck !
It MIGHT help after you follow everyone else's instructions for cleaning - and if you have a laundry room so it is not unsightly - to leave the lid/door open on it after using - that way it will be dryer inside and less likely to develop smells.

thanks everyone, it turned out to be an electrical problem. if i can ever get my hands on an electrician i will get it sorted!!
