Fig tree

This is the first year for a fig tree I have in a pot. The leaves are now dropping- I'm hoping it is deciduous- can anyone help? Also, is it correct I have to take off unripened fruit?

Apparently if youwant fruit from the tree you should leave the small figlets over-winter so that they will develop the following year.

Having said that I've had the most dreadful trouble trying to get mine to co-operate it tends to drop 90% of the fruit early.

Yes, dropped yellowing leaves are perfectly normal. I actually had a couple of ripe figs from my little potted container this year but now the leaves have dropped and I've pulled off the remaining unripe fruits. I'll also move the container up against the house walls during the winter to provide a little protection although normally these plants seem to be fairly frost resilient.

I've put my fig tree into the greenhouse for the winter, but not yet taken off the fruit-poor thing!!
