probably either an electric sander, just sand it all off, or one of those scraping hook things and a heat gun. They work very quickly, just becareful not to leave it pointing at one place for too long else it could singe or catch alight.

Nitromors. You can get it from builders supply Warning use gloves wash down gate with clean water to neutralise the caustic soda

If you have a local shot blasters thats the place to go..not too expensive,and no mess for you.
