cracked plaster

Some time ago I saw a tradesman repairing an external cracked plaster wall. He explaind the method to me but I have forgetten the detail over a long period. My garage wall needs attention and I dont want the expense of replastering.
Any ideas please

If its on an external wall, its render, not plaster. Render is a soft sand/cement mix. If its just a few cracks its an easy job. First pull out any loose bits in the cracks to make them a bit wider - or you can't get the new material in. Mix up your render in about 6 to 1 ratio. Wet the cracks then push the render in using a flat float. Paint when dry.

Thank you Buildersmate. The wall is in an integral garage but due to your reply I remember seeing the repair done now and at 81 memory doesn't always work. The other major thing I remember was to brush PVA solution on first which seems like a good idea to me so I'll have a go. It can't end up worse than it is. Cheers.
