Stains on exterior walls

My house has white marks on the exterior walls, presumably where the previous owners had fixed flower/plant baskets. Does anybody know how to remove these? I've tried washing up liquid and washing powder, also white spirits. Any suggestions?

try dishwasher tablets disolved in hot water

Borrow a power washer. But... this might clean the wall so well that it'll make the rest of the wall look dingy!
