Does having a student loan affect your chances of getting a mortgage these days?

Yes in the sense that it will be taken into account with your outgoings.

When applying for a mortgage it isn't a straight out you earn �30k you can therefore have �90k, they look at your out goings debts, credit cards etc and work out what you can reasonably afford.

That's not to say you won't get a mortgage with a student loan but depending on your commitment it could have an effect.
