hello,
I don't want to trouble my GP unnecessarily about new UK guidelines for people with high blood pressure.
I have high blood pressure and am prescribed 1 160mg valsartan capsule daily.(labelled as DIOVAN). Are these capsules beta-blockers and if so should I be contacting my GP

If you are at all worried you should speak to your GP.

At least you know he is qualified to give you the correct advice for you and your condition.

valsartan are not beta blockers, but are similar to ace inhibitors. It might be a good idea to see your gp if you havent been for some time anyway - alternatively why dont you ask for a telephone consulatation with your gp?

If you don't want to waste his time you can either phone him up or phone NHS direct and ask their doctor.

Who prescribed them - surely if it was your doctor then he knows what he gave you ? If you ask him he will know why he prescribed them and if he has seen/read the new guidelines he can tell you why he has not contacted you, or why there is no need for you to bother. By the way where can we see these new guidelines ?
