Please additionally note that the same site also warns (or at least used to) that if you live outside the UK you must remember that following UK practices abroad is potentially dangerous. What this in reality means is that UK practices are pretty unique and the inference is that the UK is a sort of Bermuda triangle where the laws of physics are also unique. This is particularly true with plumbing and electricity - other nations seem to be blissfully free of the cult-like rituals observed in UK - but the regulations are to be taken seriously nevertheless because they are to some extent backed up by law. The regulations are however very slowly changing in the UK and drifting toward the rest of the world. Soon (i.e. within a few decades) you will not need the currently stipulated elaborate earthing system as global physics reveals that two continuosly (electrically) connected bodies need not be very prominently earthed at multiple points - you need not provide for the impossible or even the very nearly totally impossible (what have you missed, or conversely, where would you stop ?).

Hi clasmi, Unless you are a registered electrician it is illegal for you to do any work on earthing upgrades or alterations to a circuit in a special location ie: bathroom or kitchen, call an electrician in to do this,if you are caught it will mean a trip to court and a hefty fine, and I am not talking a couple of hundred pounds, leave it alone, you don't know what you are doing,it is not only illegal it is dangerous, take care,Ray

PS, sorry to be so blunt,I am only trying to help you.

Thanks for that link Ethel, I have put it in my favourites.
As in any religious situation, it is possible to know perfectly well what one are doing but simply not know what satisfies the clerics. The clerics are the law and one must accept that - until things change.
Good point there KARL, but alas I am not a wise cleric,I am but a minion who has to follow the instructions of the supposedly wise ones. until the revolution one has to comply rightly or wrongly with the gospel according to Blair & co
Another point though KARL Spain who were very lax are now even more rigid on these rules than the UK
Yes, raysparx, it is sometimes a bizarre situation that arises. Chartered engineers who have a degree (perhaps a PhD) and decades of experience designing and/or supervising anything from local transformer/switchgear installations to power stations are not legally allowed to replace a simple piece of cable in their own house. Religious movements travel in waves, by the way, and the rules come and go. In some countries the word is issued by ayatollahs, in others by different clerics - God is in the eye of the beholder (one way of putting it) and rigidity varies with how much one wants to be seen as a good/true believer. Meanwhile, the rest of us just try to get on in as good a harmony as we can. On a different line, I really must force myself to read my texts more carefully so as not to leave errors (typos and others) in them.
