I have an area of ground approx 5.5m2 that I intend to cover in decorative aggrigate. I have leveled the ground & put down a black weed barrier blanket, but how much aggrigate to cover do I order? The area will not be walked on, is purely ornamental & the aggrigate will be about 2" deep.

I went to 2 builders merchants & I think I would like slate chippings. 1 merchant says a half tonne & 1 says 1 tonne. I'm confused! Need to get more accurate as a tonne is 100!

Thanks.

i sell this aggregate, you could get away with half a tonne but i wouldnt advise it? i would definatly go with the tonne (900kg) bag? it will be thicker coverage on the floor!

Cheers rugeleyboy. Want the job to look right & not look cheap. Aplogies about the mis-speling of aggregate!

Couldn't get me staff discount could you?!?! LOL ;-)

it depends where you are??
Question Author

Only joking rugeleyboy, bought slate chippings yesterday, delivered this morning, planters in place & job completed by 2pm. Looks great. Blue slate (20mm max) chppings cost 110 + VAT per bulk bag is that good?

You were spot on with advice on quantity, 1/2 bag wouldv'e looked poor.

Thanks again.
