I thought yes and yes actually.... check this.....

"They could have so much more fun by feeding the crows bread covered with baking soda. The alkaline baking soda reacts with the stomach acids to create...GAS!

NaHCO3 + HCl → NaCl + H2O + CO2

...and then the birds explode.

I'm not sure if bird stomach acid is actually HCl, but apparently it "can have a pH as low as 0.2." So it should work.

All you people who were artsy at school missed out on so much fun...."

Why would they explode? to explode the gas would need to be trapped, given that birds have a mouth and (something at the other end) the gas could easily escape. Might do the bird a bit of damage internally but I doubt they would literally explode.
Whenever our catering disposal area is 'vandalised' by a gull we give it some bread liberaly dusted with bicarb. After a few minutes an audable burp can be heard followed by a gull free area for several weeks at least.

Sweet and painless revenge!

Fantastic !

When we were in Cornmall last time on my sister's hen weekend, we tied her up and strapped a pastie to her head in the big car park in Penzance. The seagulls were everywhere and it was rather messy. Soooo funny though !

The idea of Alka Seltzer has just added a new dimension to the game . Thanks !

just to get scientific the old sailors used to use calcium carbide that gives off acetyline gas and that blows the seagulls up .I think it is to do with the rate of expansion as calcium carbide reputably has 15,000 it's own volume of expansion per second . So now I am going to bed as I feel tired
