I planted 2 armandii evergreen clematis over a year ago , 1 is healthy and 1 i've just replaced due to wilt.

The original one hasn't flowered as yet - any ideas how to ensure they will flower next year

don't know but two of my clematis have developed wilt.advice given is to cut right back and plant should flower the following year.seems like yours failed to responed to cutting back if you had to replace them
Clematis are greedy plants and armandii in particular want to be in a sunny sheltered spot. Water them with something high in potash during the summer (tomato or rose food is good) and hopefully you will be rewarded.
