is it too late _ early May _ to trim back my hollie bushes. they have not grown much over the two previous seasons. am i doing something wrong

Hi potts, the best time to prune Holly, is in Winter, or early Spring, thats when it should be given a 'hard' prune, if you want to just cut back some straggly bits now, it should be okay, but i'd recommend thats all for now. Good luck with it.
