No cold water in bath tap

For the last few days I have rarely had cold water available in my bath tap. Most of the times I have tried there has been nothing but occasionally the water runs for maybe a minute or so and then stops.

I always have cold water available in the sink tap in the bathroom and in the kitchen.

At the same time I had the problem with the bath tap I have noticed a knocking noise from the pipes when my washing machine is filling up with water - as soon as it stops filling there is a knocking noise.

Could these be connected? Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and posible solution.

Thanks

It's either an air lock in the pipe work or your cold tap needs replacing. A plumber is your best bet for either, unless you feel able to strip a tap and repair it.
The knocking noise is the reverb caused in the pipes by your ball **** "bouncing" as it refills the cold tank. You can add weight to the ball **** to stop this from happening. (it's a bit low tech but it does work)
AB ed - Ballcock is a valid word. Perhaps you could adjust your filter to allow some uses of the word....?!!
