rent a rug doctor it will cost you about a tenner for a couple of hours
I don't know enough about what is in coffee which will cause the stain and think karen3110's idea is a good one. Try not to rub the fibres to remove the stain but sounds like professional help would save in the long run.
sorry karen3110 and woofgang -got your names reversed-phone rang as I was compiling my answer.
Well after all that has been done not sure if it is now worse ... but I once got a whole cup of coffee out of a white carpet and you couldn't even see it .... but that was not long after it happened. What you could try is to get big jug of luke warm water and completely empty it over the stain. Let it soak in for a while and then get on your hands and knees with an knife, an ordinary dinner knife and drag it along pressing hard down ... the idea is that you are dissolving the coffee and then sort of squeezing it out .... direct the knife so the bulk of the water goes back in the bowl that you are holding .. and then when most of it is off you have to get about two kitchen rolls and keep on standing on them and pressing down on all the area until all the water has been soaked up, put as much weight as you can just on your heel. It takes a while but it does give a good result. Then you can always do it again when it is dry. Whether you have set the stain now I am not sure ... and next time you spill a cup of coffee do this straight away ...

Get some 1001 carpet cleaning foam/mousse, you can get it from most supermarkets its in a blue and yellow aerosol with a kind of plastic brush on the top to work the foam into the carpet. It gets out most stuff so coffee should come up easily.
