how can i clean a new lead roof i recently fitted (over a bow-bay 2000x300mm) back to a finish that i can then apply patination oil? and is it possible once lead had been exposed to rain?? thankyou

I made the same mistake once (of not putting the finish on the lead on the same day). I cleaned the white residue (lead oxide) off using fine emery before recoating. Wear a mask and gloves (obviously) but it doesn't produce dust in the air. British Lead produce a product called Lead-Cote in a spray bottle which seems a lot easier to put on than patination oil and is certainly far less hazardous.
