Reading the question about cleaning white gold and diamonds reminded me that my mum always cleans her gemstone rings with Jiff and an old toothbrush. Is this really a sensible method to use, because I want to clean my rings and daren't!

the best way to clean gems is with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush also the easiest way to clean gold is to leave it in a glass of gin
The best way to clean jewellery is to put the items in a saucepan with some washing up liquid boil it for about 5 mins take out, gently use a small tooth brush if necessary rinse then buff up,But no jewellery with any glue on.and hey presto clean and sparkling......

I'm chuckling at the idea of using gin - I prefer to drink it! I'll try the toothpaste thing and will keep the boiling washing up liquid in reserve! Thanks to you both for your answers.
Another good way of cleaning your rings n things is to give them to your hairdresser next time you get a perm (or not) and get them to soak the things in neutralizer this has an amazing cleaning effect

Thanks WeeAngie! I don't have a perm but I think my hairdresser will cry laughing if I said I wanted to clean my rings with neutraliser!!! Thanks for the suggestion though.
