Reading A Book

I used to like reading but over the last few years I fhave found it less appealling. I have more spare time than ever, but cannot concentrate on reading a book.

If the weather is good I want to be outside, and either out and about or gertting on with the gardening. If the weather is bad, I do other indoor activities or chores but rarely read.

I now need to read a short fiction book for the purposes of a volunteering role I have signed up for. I have 10 days, so perfectly doable, unless I procrastinate!

Any tips on how to get down to it?

Why don’t you read a book of short stories, or a novella. I like the Andrea Camillieri Inpector Montalbano stories, they are short.
Is an audio version of the story available to listen to ?
Don’t know if this will help,Maydup. I once could read for Ireland. Eye problems make this difficult so I now l listen on Audible or BBC sounds.
Won’t help if your book is not there though. :-(
Just curious, Maydup, but could you blame the internet for you disinterest in reading?
We can so much information (and misinformation), shock, horror, laughs, outrage, giggles, disgust, connection from just a short session on the internet I would if it has interrupted our concentration levels.
I am sad to say I find myself scrolling through my phone whilst watching tv or other activities these days
I've never had this problem, but how about a book of short stories on a theme - or by a single author? If you already have the book you need to read, then set aside time for it and stick to it. When is the time you are relaxing?
This time of year you won't be gardening in the evening. Hope this helps. I also read in bed, a nice wind-down.

Audio book of course - and maybe I could listen to it on a walk or in the car.

Hit the nail on the head Barry. 100%

If I can’t find the book as audio I might just allocate a day to reading it and force myself to put my phone down, leave the chores or other distractions and read the flippin thing!!

Thanks everyone
I'm exactly the same as Barry 1010, I can't even concentrate on TV.

I had blamed my poor hearing why I stopped watching tv but have new super clear hearing aids yet still not bothering to concentrate. I'm sure the internet is the reason.
It’s nice to see you TOB, I hope you are well.
Excuse me interrupting .
