My washing machine has a quick programme that takes 50 minutes at 60 degrees. The 20 degree wash takes 2 hours and 50 minutes. Which one is the most cost effective and which one is the more environmentally friendly?

The quick wash uses more electricity and usually can only wash a very small load
That is one strange washing machine. Our quick wash can be 10 mins at 30 degrees. At 60 degrees it takes 51 mins.(before a spin).
Usually you can do a quick over ride on temp and spin speed.

The problem with 20 degree washes is that they dont.
My quick wash is 60 minutes with a choice of temperatures from 50c down to 20c. I always use this as its one of the only choices with a 1400 spin speed, except for the 2 -3 hour programmes which I would never use. I would choose the 60c for 50 minutes as the most cost effective, but are you sure you can't change the temperature? 60c will ruin your clothes.
The manual might tell you how much electricity is used for each programme.
We choose the quickest wash at the temperature we need, with no spin. When its finished we then choose a spin. 1600 spin takes approx. 12 minutes.
Cant you change the temp on the wash cycles?
I don't understand why a quick wash would be set at only 60 degrees, when recommended washing temperatures are lower.

What channel are they on (haha).
No idea - I stick the stuff in (with powder) twist the dial (can't see it too well!) & wait till it finishes.
with the energy "crisis" I'm cutting down from fortnightly to 3-weekly washes.
still its better than slapping stuff on stones by the local river
i am interested in these answers. My machine has a 40 degree quick wash that takes about 50 minutes, and a 40 degree "eco" wash that seems to take about 3 hours
My dishwasher has an eco setting that takes longer but uses a lot less electricity
