Is anybody managing it? I can’t even go in the bedroom at the moment, it must be over 100 degrees in there. I’m sleeping (well, trying to) in the living room and the dog’s not happy about it, he keeps stropping about and flopping on the floor with huge sighs.

Please let it cool off soon.

No problem, we have ceiling fans in all bedrooms, they work well.
I am sleeping downstairs too, much cooler.
I got some more Codeine from Fracture Clinic today so I'll have no problem sleeping :-)
I've been sleeping in the much smaller spare room. There a window...and a nice breeze...right behind my head. So I've been fairly comfortable.
have cold shower before you go to bed...
Best purchase many years ago was a mobile air-conditioner (similar to Jim's link).....nice 19C upstairs at the moment ...and,yes, they do cost a bit to run - but, then, so does heating in the winter.
That's what my bedroom one says at the moment too, gingejbee. Worth every penny.
I've just got an oscillating fan tower like one of these; it works fine

But no way is it 100 degrees here, though.

I don’t think I can twist his arm for a portable air con unit as we’ll be having it fitted in when we refurb the upstairs next year.
It can help to close the bedroom curtains during the day and open them at night, with the Windows on vent.
Lots of fans is the solution. We had ceiling fans installed in the bedroom and living room, and bought cheap standing and table fans in the winter.
Fans can help but, unless they're seriously powerful, all they do is blow hot air around.
YES. my bedroom feels like furnace during the day even with all the windows open. I dont sleep IN the bed, I just sleep on top of it.Tonight, overnight it is forecast to be 20 degrees.
Put your sheets in the freezer.
How long do they take to warm up to room temperature? 30 minutes?
^A fan doesn't do any cooling at all - it can't. It simply moves air around faster so that moisture on your skin evaporates a bit quicker and removes heat energy from the surface....the so-called "cooling by evaporation effect".

During the day all our bedrooms have the windows closed and curtains drawn, keeps a lot of the heat out.
In the very hot areas of S Africa they advise keeping all windows and curtains shut during daytime.

Re: fans. I think it feels slightly better to have hot air circulating rather it sitting over you like a dead beast.
OK, I can see that, CJ. I really do not like heat and, especially, humidity which is why the air cons with dehumidifier are worth their weight in gold to me.
