Doorbell Or Knocker?

My new flat is on the first floor of a house. Getting on in years and my hearing not what it was, I need to hear delivery men arriving to deliver parcels etc.

Would you advise me to get a doorbell that both me and the person at the door can hear, or would a knocker be better? Bearing in mind that I need time to get down the stairs and I don’t want him to disappear with the parcel before I can get down.

I’ve had a look on-line and some of the bells are not waterproof. Cheers.

I’m a knocker man, every time.

Why not leave a note on the door ‘My Rottweiler is a bit deaf, so could you please knock loudly’
I'm on the ground floor, so am a mini sorting office, have taken 4 parcels in today alone.

Your absolute ideal would be a bell/buzzer that you could answer in your flat and tell whoever is there that you are on your way down.

They may be expensive though.
If you have a smart phone, have you thought about an intercom system?
Where are you ordering from?

Places like Tesco will phone you if you enter it in any special requirements.

Hope you're happy in your new home.

Yes I’ve seen the intercom ones, Mamya and they are, expensive.

Haven’t heard about the phone/intercom one, spath.
Call me old fashioned if you like but I have a doorbell that plays a tune and it suits me fine. Its less likely for me to miss hearing it rather than the usual ding dong then it stops.

I am thank you, ummmm. My old flat on the ground floor just had me looking at the houses opposite. Here, I look out over a rooftop and can see the fields overlooking, Alnwick Castle.

It’s lovely.
That's nice. You deserve it x
I bet Alnwick castle has a knocker.

I have, sherrd.

Yes. A very big one, zacs!
Those 'Ring' doorbells look good, thinking of getting one myself, you can see whos at the door and talk to them even when you're out.

Bit expensive, about £200 i think, but maybe worth it.
You need to know that intercom doorbells might not be very successful if the front door is not contained within a porch, preferably with an outer door, as passing traffic noise can virtually wipe out the sound of the caller. Enjoy your new home :)
