Painting MDF - Wipeable and Hard.

I need to paint some MDF in my recently converted camper van.

I want a hard wearing surface which is wipeable, easy to clean and won't stain easily.

I plan to use an MDF primer but could really do with some advice of what top coat to use? Gloss, emulsion, egg shell, etc??????

have had good results (including a bath panel)

using normal emulsion paint and then covering it with a layer or 2 of matt varnish - seems to work so far

you can buy stick on vinyl type stuff called fablon in diy shops

i was gonna suggest fablon too. It comes in loads of different patterns and would be much quicker, wouldn't chip and is totally wipeable. you can get some which is like a worktop style pattern. I have used this as a quick make over for kitchen cupboard doors in my little flat when I first lived by myself. Worked a treat.

Have discovered a hardwearing and wipeable emulsion in Homebase designed for bathrooms. Will be using 2 coats of MDF primer followed by 2-3 coats of this emulsion.

Dependent on the finish of this I may overcoat with 1-2 coats of matt varnish; to give that ultimate protection.
