I've been soldering electrical components for around half a century and I've never used separate solder and flux. (I don't know anyone else who has either). The stuff to use is rosin-cored solder, which has the flux inside it.

Plumbers “ Yorkshire” flux is good, Not any of the self clean *** if you can’t get the prefluxed solder.
I am reminded of an old joke. A businessman is visiting the Asian assembly line where his electronic products are being soldered . He turns to one of the ladies on the line and asks ''What do you use for Flux?''
The girl replies ''Flench letters!''
I would never use a plumbers flux on electronics.
To solder electronic components, pcbs, and all electrical or electronic circuits I have always used a lead free solder. Something like this . I use SkyTronic solder. Mainly because it is what I got when I purchased my SkyTronic Iron many moons ago. Note the copper tin make up.
