Granite counter tops

I'm a red wine lover, how does granite counter tops rate for stains, clean up, etc.

Granite is the best type of kitchen counter you can buy and one of the most expensive.

Granite is hardy, doesn't stain, heat resistant, knife resistant, easy clean, hygenic etc. I wish I had chosen it! I have wood work tops and they are a nightmare.

Just don't eat any grapefruit near it - the juice reacts with the surface.

Also make sure you treat it first - I didn't :(

Not spilt any red wine yet - I'll try that later!

How do you treat it ... and should I have ??????  I do find that if you accidentally drop something on it, it can make a little tiny chip, which is worrying.
