Some advice here (beware if it's lead paint!) http://community.screwfix.com/threads/removing-paint-from-red-brick-masonry.90026/ http://www.bobvila.com/articles/how-to-remove-paint-from-brick/#.V2wQF_krKUk http://www.oldhouseweb.com/how-to-advice/brick-houses.shtml

Will a jet washer shift it ?
Beware pressure washers - they might damage the brickwork if the wall is old. Speaking from experience!

Thanks all.
Hire a pin-scabbler.

I had to google that, svejk. Never heard of it. Wouldn't it be likely to damage the bricks?
It'll take a minute layer off the brick. Is it a paint spill or a whole wall you want to take paint off~?
If it's a whole wall(walls) the pin-scabbler's the way to go(imo)
(wear a mask) ;o)

It's almost the whole wall. A lot of it has worn off over time. It's now dirty looking faded white paint over what underneath it is a lovely old red brick wall. Such a shame. I won't be doing it myself by the way - but I'll mention it to him who will. ;o)

Thanks svejk.
