Ebay Dispute

My OH bought me a very generous Christmas present (a piece of georgian silver). On receipt he was not that happy with it and so showed it to me. It immediately rang alarm bells so I took it to an expert who confirmed my fears. OH has written to seller x2 and had no response. Now he has opened a dispute with ebay. Nothing has been heard. All seller's other items in his "shop" have disappeared as has seller. Ebay appear to be doing nothing.

OK, I can do the small claims route, but is there anything on ebay himself should be doing?!!

TIA.

When did he open the dispute with eBay?
And did he pay with PayPal?
Question Author
Opened dispute on 15/12. Yes he paid by paypal.
eBay should have replied within 48 hours.
Oh, and when did he receive the item?
Notify your bank-get them to cancel it.
The bank can't do anything. The item was paid via PayPal.
paypal should reimburse you if you can prove what was bought was indeed dodgy

PayPal has been good to me recently, reimbursing me for an item that was promised but never delivered. Try them.
eBay will have contacted the seller and given him / her time to reply.
The case details will give a date for the seller to reply by, if there is no reply then you escalate the dispute to eBay customer support.
You can use eBay search to find the seller by using their seller ID , even if they are no longer an eBay member the contact details will still be there.
If you put the seller name on here I will search for it and tell you what I find.

Thanks all. He is on the phone to ebay as I type. Eddie, when he has come off the phone I'll get the details, thanks. I am really really peed off. He tried to do something really nice for me after a difficult time and its turned into a pile of c***.

I did say to him "attempt to sort it out with ebay and if you cant I'll sue the little ***"..........
As you know fine well, BM, suing is one thing, but getting your cash back is another. Fingers crossed eBay refund.

Yeah I get that HC, thanks. I'm just venting......... (as you do).....
Would the Police or Trading standards no have an interest - they are selling fake goods.

Ebay is great - until you come across the Arthur Daley of the internet.

I thank you all for your help. Apparently, seller has been suspended. OH has spoken at length to ebay who state that they will guarantee he gets his money back. He is instructed to send item back at which point his money will be refunded (that's a bit of an **** because item is currently with silver expert some 20 miles away). OH is quite upset cos now he cannot buy me a christmas present cos his cash is tied up by Mr Fraudulent Assay Mark.

In retrospect, I bought an item from this seller last year and it wasnt what it was said to be, but it cost me so little money I cba to do anything about it. He is obviously a faker and a charlatan. Had I known Mr BM was buying from this seller I might have had something to say, but he was doing it secretly.

HC gets best answer because that was v useful for OH to call - but all of you really ought to get "very bloody helpful". Thanks.
good news...get him to give you an iou for xmas !
I'm sure you don't need to be told but make sure the item is sent back 'signed for', otherwise the boooga will say he never received it.

Make sure you get refunded the cost of return postage, too
