I have just eaten my first persimmon. I have seen then in the shops many times but never bought them before. I am not sure if it ripe enough as it was OK-ish but not as tasty and sweet as I was led to believe it would be.

Does anybody else like them ?

I've never heard of them before, mikey.
I find that they take ages to ripen. If you bite into them and they are all mushy and sweet they are scrummy.
Put them in a drawer and leave to ripen( when they are very squashy)
I really enjoy them - buy them in Tesco at the moment, 3 for £1. If you give them a squeeze, there should be some 'give' in them and ready to eat. They are also called Sharon Fruit.

Sometimes called Sharon Fruit Tony. They look a bit like tomatoes :::

Wolfie...I will buy another one and let it get really ripe on the kitchen window sill. The one I had today was quite nice but just a tad disappointing. But I do have some fresh lycees to look forward later !
Thanks mikey.
I love them. They taste like sweet carrots.
