warm up quicker than an oven with shelves?

I always take the shelves out when I warm up the oven, prior to cooking.
Is it necessary?

The amount of energy i expend removing and replacing oven shelves is likely to be greater when added to the energy of my huffing and puffing about the hassle factor to completely decimate the saving had I left them in (or out).........I'm getting confused now.

And I thought I had odd OCD qualities!!!!!

In, out, shake it all about!

As an empty oven has only the air to heat up no shelves it will heat up quicker. But as soon as you put the cold shelves in that will cool the oven down so you gain exactly nothing in time or energy used as it then has to reheat the cold shelves. The best option as you have been told is to just put shelves you actually need in and heat it up. Though the difference is so tiny it hardly matters. Well under 1p in electricity I would think and a few seconds in time.

I'm glad I asked this question. Now, I can get on with cooking thing without having the kitchen cluttered up with shelves, grill pans, trays and other oven paraphernalia.
Thank you all.
