Jammed Radiator Thermostat Valves.

I have a couple of radiator valves that are jammed shut so the rads are cold. they've been like this for a few months now...although the valves are 30 years old.

Is it just a matter of taking the tops off and trying to pull the wire plunger bit inside to free it up ? Will be replacing the rads and valves soon so not a massive problem if not done.

BRIGHT SPARK

Turn the valves on fully and give the valve body a sharp tap with a small hammer.This may release the valve seat.If this fails then its new valves needed.

I've just cured a radiator with the same kind of problem, (it was staying fully 'on'), by removing the top, gripping the stuck pin with a pair of pliers and jiggling it in and out a few times. This freed the pin, and it's working fine again.
