Recently I have been told by a contractor that they now believe that woodchip wallpaper is a fire hazard but she couldn't remember where she had heard that.
My concern is that the flat that I rent from a social landlord has woodchip wallpaper from front to back... no wall is spared... :-O

Is it?

No more than blown vinyl I'd say.

Your landlord is a person of unique taste.
Was the contractor a painter and decorator? They hate woodchip with a passion because its so hard to remove and leave a decent surface. We've got painted blown vinyl (subtle pattern) on our downstair walls because the walls are so poo. Actually i like it. It gives a bit of texture and pattern without going overboard.
Jeezo woofgang, wattle and daub or adobe brick at a push, but poo??!! :)
Ha .......... "Donkey's Breakfast" as it's known in the business ;o)

I swear that some people are going around looking for something new to worry about. Try not to listen to them Faith, but, if you're concerned .........

douglas you are so right! They are very UNIQUE in many ways!
A blister formed behind the woodchip in the hallway and I could feel that the wall behind was crumbling. Reported this to my landlord who promptly asked me to strip the woodchip and they would re-plaster the wall!!!

woofgang you're probably right! I was hoping my landlords would be forced to get the old "acne scarred" surface out of my home... Guess not!
The Builder... THANK YOU!!! I wanted a reason to get rid of the stuff really but I've kept your link... Many thanks

Thank you all and have a great weekend!

Looks like I'll just start stripping the woodchip and re-decorate it myself. Clearly landlord - social landlords - don't want to don't have too... :-)))
