is it ok to re-pot orchids-mine is top heavy?

Mine always snap ! ....repot with a support...don't see why not !
Repot with care, it's worth looking it up on the net - they don't want hardly any soil, they grow better if they are rootbound. Better to use a heavy pot the same size as the one you have, and stake the flower.
I was hoping someone would be able to tell you sandy10. Mine is rootbound I think, in a very small pot and I can't see any soil, but it has flowered again this year much to my amazement.
Personally, don't repot until April at the earliest. try to make do for now but this is totally the wrong time of year to repot
