I 'met' a lovely small French bulldog today, his tail was docked, I thought it was illegal to dock tails ?

I think it became illegal on 1st January this year but with some exceptions
Its not illegal in Ireland or in many european countries or the US. Its been illegal in the UK since 2007 unless the dog is of a sporting breed and the individual dog is intended to be worked.

I think it is such a shame to dock a dog's tail just for fashion. When I got my boxer from a rehoming centre near Drogheda in Ireland she was already docked. The tail is such a powerful communication tool for a dog. However when she is really happy the sight of her stump wiggling back and forth is rather funny.

Out on walks I now see more and more boxers and other breeds that were traditionally docked with complete tails which gets my thumbs up.
I think it's not been legal for many years,as my mum's dog had had his tail docked before she got him 12 years ago & the vet she goes to went ape
I like to see a "whole"tail.
