Gas I think.

Nobody can beat that Tony :-)
I think that gas (not calor) is the cheapest to run setting aside stuff like solar and geothermal.
Are you thinking of having new central heating, Psybbo ?.
Scott's Porridge Oats. Or is it Ready Brek?

The house our daughter has bought has economy 7 storage heaters and she wants to get oil fired heating instead.
Great minds think alike, sex and probably gas - however, one tip I would pass on, after the experience of the mater's clapped out 50 year old Aga, is to make sure your flue is cleaned (not least for insurance). In her case, she was going through a 900l load in about 2.5 months, then we (I) had the flue cleaned, probably for the first time in 20 years, and, as I leave tomorrow and have just read the meter, she has used less than a 1/3rd of a tank on the aga since early June, (ok no heating....but).

What came out of that metal chimney was unbelievable, the really dangerous stuff ré fires about 3 ft under the top....(and not far from where my bat cave is).
Go for oil only if mains gas is not available.
I would say radiators, though underfloor is nice but very expensive unless you are producing your own electricity
there's hydro, fred, or those underground systems that are environmentally - I've also been involved in heating systems from combi units on chicken farms, though you need more than six chucks.
We used to have an house with those economy 7 storage radiators 9 ( c'os there was no mains gas to the house ) They were rubbish at keeping there heat and they were pretty expensive to run.

Thanks a lot, looks like oil then - no mains gas here yet. DTC, enjoy your vacation x
Thanks, psybbs, Scotch or Irish whisky/whiskey works wonders too, xx
My daughter moved to a village with no gas and had central heating using liquid gas installed, and she had a tank put into the garden to store it. Cheaper than oil she has been told by lots of people
Of the "conventional" fuels, Psybbers, mains gas is still cheapest. Then oil.
LPG is ridiculous, both in installation and running costs.

Cheaper than gas even, is a wood pellet boiler. You do need storage though, for a truckload of pellets.
I'm wiring one up at the moment. It's in an outhouse, but you can fire it up from inside the house.
Sorry Psybbo I thought you meant what form of central heating was the best, not what fuel. We have oil and it gets more and more expensive every month . last time was £360 for 500 litres which only lasts us 6 weeks in the winter and we only have the heating on a few hours a day as we have a solid fuel fire in the living room.
