An elderly housebound friend wanted to give this plant as an anniversary present. A neighbour picked one up for her - but it is 10 foot tall! My friend has painted a large pot and would like to put the plant in it. Is it OK to prune it drastically? (The care instructions with the plant are very brief and not very helpful).

Thanks - will have a read of the link.
Yes we have one in the garden, it can grow to a massive height unless you control it. You can even cut it right down to a stump and it will sprout again. Just be aware that extreme frost can kill a new plant especially if in a pot, so move to a unheated greenhouse or sheltered spot in the garden. Ours in the garden which we have had over 30 years just gets a few brown branches through frost damage which we cut off in Spring. So hack away!!
