My last house was filled with the stuff and it was a sod to get off. In the end I held a boozy stripping party which did the trick. (It goes like snot when it's wet)
Woodchip is the sperm of the devil!!!
Is it the Devil incarnate? - YES
Is it better than anaglypta? - NO
Is it better than bare plastered walls? - NO
What are the alternatives? - Stick with plaster or lining paper.

What are you planning on decorating?
would you serve Spam to your guests? No. Woodchip is the home decorating version of spam.
A bit dated now. It might make a room hasn't been repapered since the 1950s! Woodchip was fine back then and easy to remove. Then all the manufacturers decided to produce it with a washable water-resistant coating, making the modern stuff the very devil to remove. (I know a painter and decorator who won't take on work that involves removing it!). Anagglypta is fine if you want a relief-patterned paper. I'd use a heavy lining paper rather than a bare plaster wall. The paper will cover any small defects in the surface which, no matter how tiny, tend to stick out like a sore thumb.

I know, I know.....woodchip and anaglypta are broccoli. But if you don't want bare walls and don't want patterned wall paper what else can you do?
.
Hideous. My sister's husband loves it for some reason and when she went away redecorated the whole house in it, and not satisfied with it's horrible tacky sanitised whiteness decided to emulsion it all brilliant white. She nearly killed him.
Paint your walls in different colours - ie 2 walls one colour and 2 a complimentary colour and then buy huge pieces of modern art and slap them on the walls.
(or lots of small pieces)

Oh and a big mirror to make the room look enormous.
My niece took 8 hours to strip one wall of woodchip, and that was with a steamer....
Our whole house is papered with woodchip, I asked our landlord if we could remove it and he said no as the plaster behind it is in a really bad condition and would probably come away with the paper :-/
I hate the stuff!
we moved into a house and the whole house had woodchip, dreadful to remove !!!!!!!!!!!!!
