Morning all,

My wireless smoke alarm keeps bleeping. I originally thought it was the old battery operated one so I removed it but its the the new one which I assume has a battery back up as it runs off the mains. I've tried to open it but can't figure out how. I've tried twisting it and pulling it down slightly but I don't want to force it in case it breaks. Can anyone help?

It looks like this:

Can you see if theres anywhere on the body ( probably on the side near the top ) you can push the blade of a screwdriver to release the plastic catches that hold it closed ?.
Looking at the pictures from the link you provided, it looks as if it swivels down from one side.
In Brighton, East Sussex, the local fire brigade are very helpful, supply free alarms and will visit to sort out alarm problems free of charge. Perhaps you could try them.
Alternatively, the manufacturers might be willing to advise you.

I'm using a clima ladder but I'm not tall enough to see what there is on the sides. I'll use a screwdriver to feel for any gaps.
You might be able to feel the slots with your fingers, tigger.
I changed 2 smoke alarms for an elderly friend last night. I just turned these and the bottom holding the battery came off. One was not so easy to do up again. I notice on your link it says heat alarm rather than smoke.

I've tried it again but I'm not tall enough to get a proper grip or feel for any levers etc. Think I'm going to have to call my dad!

Its not the exact same one Grasscarp but it was the one that looked the most similar.

Thanks everyone :o)
I'm sure dad will sort it for you tigger.
Tiggs ......... tell your Dad, there should be a battery compartment door somewhere. Unless they've changed them, you shouldn't have to take the whole cover off.

After a while trying to figure out how to open it my dad managed in the end. He's changed the battery but its still bleeping!
Is it the only "main-wired" one Tiggs?

Have you checked to see if the circuit breaker (fuse-box) is still on for the detectors?
soory ^^^ mains wired

I've got 2 mains-wired alarms. My dad switched all the electrics off for a few seconds and it seems to have sorted it out now. Haven't heard anything for at least 20 mins so fingers crossed.

Thank you :o)))
