Do you mean paint or just wood preserver. if it is paint, try white spirit.

2sp_ Most paving slabs these days only have one good side unfortunately.

Tried the wire brush & bleach route at the weekend - didn't work.
Now, turning them over - there's an idea. Thanks for that 2sp_

You'll find that's what the last person who stained the paving did too.

Acid maybe ? Or grind it away.
