I was surprised to see that article in he mail today AOG, as most of those cleaning remedies are well known, and have been for years.
I've tried the coke down the loo one, it didn't work anywhere near as well as Harpic. Vinegar to descale a kettle is quicker than the lemon one in the article, but I'll try the others out, especially the microwave one as I just exploded a bowl of soup in mine :)
i tried the vinegar one in the kettle, made the coffee taste horrible. I tried rinsing it out endless times, maybe it should have been white vinegar...
I used brown vinegar Em, though I put white vinegar in the washing machine.
i had to get rid of the kettle in the end, i couldn't get the taste of the vinegar out.
i need a good cheap cleaner for the bathroom tiles, they are ceramic, and are looking a bit grubby.
