I'm afraid I don't grow veg anymore but I do sympathise with you, don't be put off by the doom merchants, they might catch up. I love the idea of cheating though!

I'm really fed up this year with the weather...cold...windy...too dry.  Nothing we can do about it but complain!  I seem to be battling with more greenfly, whitefly every-blinkin'-colour-of-the-spectrum-fly than usual & I've been outside with the soapy water this afternoon.  They're probably all singing & scrubbing each others backs at the moment!

Sorry this isn't much help oxeyedaisy!

Hmmm ..... can't say I've noticed any growing "go slow" so far this year. Admittedly I have all flowers & shrubs, no veg., but fingers crossed, everything seems to be thriving this year except for my poor Hostas, but as usual this is down to the slugs rather than climate.
With the very cold weather everything got off to a slow and tortuous start but after the last dramatic snowfall (beginning May) nature has suddenly picked up and the growing season is going wild - flowers, weeds, fruit, veg... you name it, there's no holding it back.
Hope the same thing will happen with your pumpkins, oxeyedaisy.
