I would say Virgin but it probably depends what crew you get, and how welcome they make you feel.
BA rip you off if you have excess baggage.  They only allow 23kg within Europe (this is NOTHING) and then charge you 5 per kilo excess.  And their rolls (in the lunch) are RUBBISH.. Otherwise they're quite good though.  My mate works for Virgin though - so he'd probably say they were great, and definitely say they are better!!!  :-)

thank you people, looks like Virgin have won
Virgin give you an extra inch of knee room in economy; BA are impossibly cramped for anyone over 6ft. Check out exact details here
I think BA, although I have not had that much experience with Virgin.
I would agree with denisegordon. I think it depends largely on how welcome you are made to feel etc. Having flown with Virgin to the Far East a number of times, they were fantastic but on a recent trip to New York with Virgin, the service was sub-standard and the crew rude. However, having said that, I do think that Virgin offer slightly more leg room than BA which is important esp. when flying longhaul.
Not much of a difference for me but I'd say Virgin, I like the little welcome pack you get. Can't say much about their trains though, I've experienced many uncomfortable journeys !
