Finding who legally owns a house in US

I know its easy here to find who owns a house by going through the land registry and paying a small fee, but what about in the US? I am 99% certain that somebody owns a specific properly but how can I check for certain? TIA

Looking at that site my guess is there is no centralised land registry in the US and that you need to enquire to the local registrar in the area where the house is located.
