You should have a supply of cold water from the mains. This should have nothing to do with any boiler. If the water from the mains cold tap nearest to the stopcock tastes bad, refer to your water supplier.
your cold water is separate from the combi boiler. surely your not using water from the boiler to drink ?
As above, the only water to drink is the cold water from the incoming mains. If you suspect this is unsatisfactory, contact your water supplier - they have an obligation to investigate any complaints about taste, odour, illness etc.

Thanks for advice, will contact my supplier. but very strange it only started since i had my combi fitted last week!
you should never drink water from boiler anyway x
So are you drawing water from the cold tap or is it a mixer tap or what?

its a mixer tap - downstairs in my kitchen. possibly when filling the kettle up, I haven't let it run as cold as it could be, as it does take a min, but even so the "heated" water from the boiler must not be right..
...sounds more like a minor plumbing problem, than a water supply issue.
If you have a mixer tap in the kitchen and it is working properly (and not letting 'hot' water out when you've only got the 'cold' side opened up), it takes less than one second for any residual water from the 'hot' boiler side of the system to flush through into fresh cold water - the length of pipework from the mixer unit to the spout of 30cm perhaps.
Changing the boiler should not had any impact on the cold side supply of fresh water from the rising main - unless the plumber has fouled things up.
You cannot drink water from the boiler itself (Combi - It is sealed)
You can drink the hot water output quite safely (as it does not come from any storage .. just heated instantly direct from mains .. but it will not taste nice)
The cold tap feed perhaps is getting a warming (thermal rise) effect from traveling past boiler or it's hot pipes.
Can't really see how plumber can mess up pipework .. he will just tap into rising mains for the supply.
I echo what the others say - your incoming cold water supply is separate, you can't drink water which has been through your new boiler!
