I have a 1914 house with original floor boards during the renovation the roof was removed and as the place was to be gutted the builders said they didn't need an over roof. My project manager and the builder said any damage to items which are staying will be fixed or replaced. My floor boards on the first floor which were exposed to the rain for 4 weeks look terrible they were a little patchy before but now they are all wonky and falling through etc. I have carpet fitters coming in the morning I have told everyone of this in advance. The last I knew the project manager said the floor boards were ok and dont need replacing and just need fixing, but the builders have not done this in time for the carpets to go in. Plus other builders on the phone are now saying the whole lot should be replaced with board??? The carpet fitters cannot be delayed as they can only do tomorrow and then january so I don't know what to do, we are supposed to be moving in the house thursday. I am tempted to get the fitters to fit the loft carpet and extension carpet and leave the first floor till a decision is made and hope that the fitters my be able the cut the carpet in advance and underlay and roll in back up to store in a loft room and then come back one evening and I pay them extra?
personally, i would put the carpet fitters off till Jan rather than have them come out twice. Even if you move in, just all buy a pair of crocs (about £5 in sports shops) so you don't have to go barefooot, and let the builders sort it out next week. as you can see i am not albags, and that is just my opinion
I agree with bednobs.

You certainly don't want to be taking carpet back up.

all is ok, I have been working on the boards myself cleaning and fixing down, the fitters are there now and say they have seen worse, and they say floor looks ok so will go a head with the fit. I will ask the project manager where we stand if the boards are a problem in the future. If it turns out we have dry rot or something I need a come back on the builders, so they fix at their cost.
have to say what the, ive been following your posts and your builders sound shocking!

lol ermmm yes. I try not to think about it otherwise I would probably take my own life...and I'm not joking either. Unfortunately the house means a terrible amount to me, some people they 'oh it's not important its owning bricks and mortar' but not to me I don't have enough of anything else important in my life so the house is the most important thing to me. So to have had these bad builders well, I have had the worst 6 months of my life. And the works still not finished as I move in the house. I trying and forget about the worst times but it's not easy, I hope time will help me forget and I can move on. But that is all depending on the house being right and not having problems which might not be the case judging by the quality of the work.

picked up your email darling xxx
Me too .. just seen this!

Stick to floorboards .. 'Other' builders seem to hint that they wanted just to plonk down chipboard sheets .. which could result in a springy floor.
Patch/repair existing boards.
New carpet is iffy if lifted and re-laid again .. as it's fitted under tension.
