My sister says you can put the sap from an Aloe Vera house plant straight onto your skin. Is this ok to do. Can you put it onto a bleeding scratch?

Yes. It has all sorts of healing properties, including a coagulant that helps stop bleeding. It's almost magical in the case of burns and scalds, healing the skin and rapidly reducing blistering. There should be a plant on everone's kitchen windowill. Read all about it...

I agree with heathfield although it should never be applied to an open wound as studies have shown that it could actually delay healing.

Thank you very much for your answers. I will definitely put it on my skin. I don't think I'll take it for internal ailments though, as suggested in the article, because I'd worry that I would prepare it wrongly, and do more harm than good. Thanks again.
fantastic for sunburnt skin as well

Wonderful on prickly heat as well.
You can buy aloe vera juice in Holland and Barrett with full instructions, it's supposed to be very good for the innards.

Thanks for all your answers. My son has been directly applying the Aloe Vera from our plant straight on to his sunburn. I might give some to youngest son for his eczema.
