My sister recently bought a special microfibre double duvet that says it can be washed in a standard 6 kilo machine. I always take all mine to the laundrette but it occurred to me that maybe it is okay to wash a normal single one in a 6 kilo washing machine. Has anyone else done this and was it okay?

Yes I wash my feather and down duvets in my domestic 6 kilo washer. They're fine.
Yes and Yes. Just make sure its properly dried.
would be ok, but they take a time to dry.
Have always washed mine, feather and down, also the fiber ones. The only duvet that has been a problem is a kingsize 14 tog. Far to large to be washed efficiently.
