I have just had new turf laid front and back, looks lovely! However, need some advice on how to look after it. How long should it not be walked on for? How much does it need watering and what time of day? Many thanks!

It is usually best to water in the evening.

http://www.turffit.co.uk/diylawn.html gives information on caring for a turfed lawn.

when we had ours done the chap said to keep off it for about 2 weeks. Then light use only till it starts to grow. Keep the football players off it till you have mowed it twice. You can tell when it has taken by lifting a corner. When you can see new roots growing through the lawn has taken and you should then stop checking. Water loads if there is no rain. We did ours twice a day, morning and evening it was a real slog but the results were worth it. If the turf dies, its really expensive to do it again!!!

Immediately after laying turf start watering. It is important to give the turf a really good soaking ensuring that the water has soaked through the turf into the underlying soil. The watering must be repeated until the turf has established, it is the single most important step you need to take to establish a beautifaul and long lasting lawn.

You may start mowing as early as four days after laying if you can do so without disturbing the lawn. Aim to keep the grass at a height of about 25mm (1")
Turf will accept light traffic immediately (walking) but wait some weeks before athletic activities.
