How is it best to join 2 boards of 9mm MDF edge to edge? Tried using a 10cm batton, Gllued and screwed with 3/4 screws, fell apart as board was too heavy. Is a wider batton the only answer??????

Vertically or Horizontally?

Horizontal join,
The MDF should really double rebated or biscuit jointed. As you don't give the lengths of the two boards and where the joint is, or the width, trying to give a proper answer is a bit like juggling soot.

Good plan Count Arthur! 1220x610 joined along the 1220 side. Now if it is soot juggling you want to know about..........
Double rebated would be simplest with a 75 x 25mm SW batten along the joint. MDF is a bugger to get a neat finish with on the butt hence many people chamfer the edges to make it look deliberate.

Thanks Count A off to the shed!
Ham........ I know The Count is on the case, but, wouldn't it be a lot easier to buy a 2420 x 1220 sheet and cut it in half?
oops ......... 2440 x 1220 ^^^^

Hi builder, good idea was trying to use materials I already had. Will give the rebating a go in the morning, if all else fails i will then go and buy a full sheet of Ply which would look better anyway! :)
